How long should I be taking this product before trying to conceive?
In general, if you or your healthcare professional feel as though your diet is lacking in essential Omega-3 fatty acids like DHA it is a good idea to begin supplementation around 6 months before trying to conceive to ensure the mothers stores are built up and available to support the needs of the growing foetus. Is this product suitable for people with a seafood allergy?
The DHA oil in Bio Island DHA for Kids and DHA for Pregnancy is derived from microalgae which is a type of seaweed and does not secrete mucous. Seafood prominently refers to fish and shellfish. This product should be safe to consume, if the there is no allergy to seaweed, However, if there is an allergy to any seafood, it is recommended to consult with your doctor or healthcare professional prior to taking this product to determine whether it is suitable.
Does this product contain mercury?
Bio Island DHA for Kids and DHA for Pregnancy are formulated with algae DHA rather than derived from fish. Bio Island DHA for Kids and DHA for Pregnancy have been tested and comply with all relevant regulations. There is no safety concern relating to mercury in these products.
Does this product contain gelatine?
Bio Island products use softgel capsules made from pharmaceutical grade gelatine (bovine). This ingredient is considered safe to use for oral consumption and can be easily digested.
Is this product vegan or vegetarian friendly?
Bio Island DHA for Kids and DHA for Pregnancy use DHA sourced from microalgae and are both suitable for vegan or vegetarians, only when the capsule is pierced and only the oil is consumed. However, this is personal preference as some vegetarians or vegans may not want to consume due to the oil having touched the bovine gelatine capsule.
Does Bio Island DHA for Pregnancy contain iodine?
The active ingredient used in Bio Island DHA for Pregnancy is DHA Oil derived from microalgae Schizochytrium species. The iodine content in the Schizochytrium sp. micro-algal is very low and there is no public health concern from excessive intake of this micro-algae leading to harmful levels of dietary iodine. Our DHA for Pregnancy is safe for the general pregnant woman. For women with thyroid concerns such as hyperthyroidism is recommended to consult with a doctor before taking the product.
